We are devastated, as you can imagine. The family learned the news of Kelly's death last night. Frank was able to tell them privately. But all three families are in this together.
9:00 a.m. PST/noon EST there is a press conference. You can watch it on www.katu.com Frank will be making a statement for the family.
Know that he is holding up. But he certainly needs your prayers at this time.

God bless you and your family. We were heart sick to hear the news this morning about Kelly. We do know this that the Lord is El Shaddai (The All Sufficient One, THE GOD OF THE MOUNTAINS,God almighty). We will be praying for you.

Donn DeHart of RTS has been broadcasting news and appeals for prayer, and I have been but one voice among thousands lifted up to our heavenly Father on behalf of Kelly, Brian and Nikko. I am deeply saddened to hear that he has gone to be with the Lord; not on his account, of course, but for those who have loved him and will miss him so much more than I. May you find comfort in the Lord in the midst of this tragedy.

We do not sorrow as those who have no hope. Kelly cannot come back to us, but we will go to him! Kelly walked with God and he was not because God took him.

Frank and Carolyn and family,
I am so deeply grieved to hear of your loss. Please know that while your own arms may be too weak to be lifted in prayer, there are multitudes of others holding your arms up as we pray with you and for your brother’s family and for the continuing search and rescue efforts. May the God of all comfort richly comfort you now and in the days to come.
Thank you also, Frank, for being a model of faith as you pointed countless people watching the news conference to the source of Kelly’s hope. May many people across this country be moved by the example of your faith.
I ache with you, but I also trust and pray. And I remember the picture of Jesus that Carolyn has taught me about ---of Jesus who wept with Mary of Bethany, and who humbled himself to experience our grief, and ultimately to embrace our greatest grief with his own body as he stretched himself out upon a cross. Christ has drunk the dregs of this cup of grief that we may have hope even in the darkest hour.

I woke up around 4:30am or so yesterday morning and could not go back to sleep. So I got up and did an usual early morning devotion. Here is the devotional article I wrote and sent out to friends. Conquering A Higher Mountain

I woke up in the middle of the night, overcame by a surge of sorrow because of the lost of life of the 3 missing Mt. Hood climbers -- one of them was the brother of my thesis advisor Frank James.
A body was found dead yesterday, near a snow cave next to another snow cave where sleeping bags and mountain climbing gears were left behind. The image struck me that the man was striving to live, hoping to move towards safety -- but in the process of doing so, he lost his gears and could not succeed. The summit that the climbers attempted to conquer turned out to be not the 11,000 ft mountain, but the summit of death and life. At the peak of the mountain, they encountered the unplanned fierce enemy of death.
Jesus said, "Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me." (John 14:1)
Death has been swallowed up in victory... Thanks be to God! He gives us the victor through our Lord Jesus Christ. (1Corinthians 15:54, 57)
While the 3 climbers failed their attempt to conquer Mt. Hood, they triumphed their battle with death through their faith in Lord Jesus Christ. As I know my heart will continue to ponder deeper of my sorrows, I am comforted at the break of morning by the Holy Spirit that we will overcome, even death, because of Jesus.

I just want to add to the many many thousands of groups of believers who have been offering up our constant prayers for Kelly, your family, your mother Lou Ann, Karen and the other climbers and their families. From your Believers Chapel familiy and many other groups and individuals in the Dallas area, our hearts go out to you and our faithful and confident prayers go out to our sovereign Lord.....the mighty God of all creation as well as the tender God of comfort in times of our most desparte need. May His mercy and grace abide in your hearts as you walk this difficult walk. Thank you for your strong testimony to the world during this most difficult time. It is times like these that our faith is exercised the most and in many ways the most real. Sometimes we don't get the result we had hoped for and the heatbreak is very real, yet we are not confused about God and who He is.
